When I first started getting into cars properly, I made two vows. The first was never to own a boring car. The second was that any car that left my stewardship would be in a better state then when it entered. Might be tricky this time. It's not as bad as it seems. The slam panel is buggered, as is the whole front clip. The barrier completely missed the bumper, so that's unscathed. The bonnet's totaled, as is the offside wing. The radiator is bent, but not leaking at all. The wheelarch is bent in at the front, but it hasn't reached as far as the suspension turret.Looks fairly badass with the front end stripped. Also, look at the inside of the wing. There were lots of leaves in there, and soil. Soil! Now, do I part it out or fix it?

A vow is a vow. But you're in for a ride to hell if you decide to repair it, even taking part supplies and specialized workmanship in account.

1. Sell off extra parts but keep drivetrain

2. Use money from selling off extra stuff to buy something fun and in need of a drivetrain

3. ???

4. Profit

*Find an e30 that blew a timing belt. There are tons of write ups on this swap.*

I've got the skills and equipment to do it all myself, and there's tons of E36s in every scrapyard around the country. They were one of the best-selling 4-doors in the country in their time.

I'll see how pulling out the front outrigger goes, and see if there's a parts car to pull bits from.

Actually, it might be quite tricky to find one in a scrapyard that doesn't have the same sort of damage.

That's a good idea, but the drivetrain is a bit tired itself. I'm thinking of repairing it (mainly out of guilt) and then selling it on.

If anything, I'll get some good practice out of it.

It seems to be quite difficult to find an E30 here, although I'm sure it can be done.

Maybe it's just tricky to find a 325i, which wouldn't matter if I'm doing an engine swap.

How would the second part work if you bought a new car?

Sorry, I don't get what you mean.

I've got my Alfa 156 that I can use to get places, so I don't actually need the BMW to be running and I can indulge in a little mucking about.

It's a fibreglass shell for a Ferrari 308. My dad got it years ago with plans to make a kit car with it, but never got round to it.

To be perfectly honest, I've never been that big of a fan of kit cars. The only way I can see it being truly cool would be to create a tube-frame car with a proper Ferrari V8 in it.

That would be badass.

I need your sidemarkers (the ones one the wing fender, right above the die moldings)

can you make that happen???

I have clear ones and I want amber (orange) ones for mine

These bits? I'll have a look for some when I go to the scrapyard. I need one myself actually.

Not sure what postage will be like, but they're light things.

With difficulty I think.

Probably modifications. Lightweight bits, a little more power, a nicer exhaust. That sort of thing.

You bastard you were supposed to sell it to me!

Now i'll have to just live with my Volvo forever or until I find a reasonably priced Lexus GS300 Sport that I can swap a Supra gearbox & turbo setup into.

Bugger, yeah. I'll be fixing it, hopefully to a good standard. Won't be worth it monetarily, but it'll be good experience. Plus, it'll be a good opportunity to sort out the coolant leak.

Yeah, it's good practice I guess. How'd it get mangled anyway?

I was a moron and gave it a bit too much boot coming out of a wet roundabout. Rear end kicked out and I couldn't catch it. Low-speed, but I hit a barrier. Right above the bumper as well. Not sure whether that's a good thing or bad. Easier to repair, but less impact absorbed.

I think I understand now why new cars have traction control.

Ah, shame. I've done that one or two times in the Volvo, only without the crunchy bit. And once on the Kawasaki, which definitely ended in a crunchy bit. D:

Yeah very stupid of me. I had a good 3 months of driving it before I pranged it.

I'm fixing it though, as the damage is only cosmetic. I've got everything I need except the wing, which is proving rather difficult to find. There's lots breaking on eBay, but none with the right colour combo with wings left.

It's only a matter of time though.

Bad luck ! But if i recall it was cheap daily, right? yes, if it still runs, make it live again.

mine ( your car siamese brother ) did the summer fine. Just a broken seat support.

Very cheap daily. I'll definitely fix it as there's very little mechanically wrong with it. It's high mileage, but it's a good honest car.

Sweet. I really like the look of the E36, especially from the side. Such a great, elegant design. It also helps that they've got a great chassis to play around with.
